Kind, soft-hearted, naïve, easy-going, and unlucky in love: Oggy is an ordinary hero who arouses empathy rather than admiration. He’s a hero in spite of himself. We identify with Oggy so easily because of (or thanks to) the cockroaches. These three nuisances symbolise the things that bug us every day. The lack of dialogue in the cartoon also helps make Oggy and the cockroaches universal and multi-generational.
